My husband and I are really lucky to have a cat sitter we know and trust. Our cats love “Uncle Mike,” and he loves them. And, yes, we check in with him a few times a day when we’re out of town, but we know that our cats are happy and safe.

A Hotel for Cats

But not everyone is that fortunate. Take Shana Martin from Orange County, California. As a cat mom, she struggled to find the right caretaker for her cats when she traveled. With no appealing options to conventional boarding in Orange County, she decided to build one. Club Cat Hotel & Resort for Felines, located in Irvine, is a boutique, luxury boarding facility. The goal is to minimize the cat’s (and the owners’) stress by providing a safe, cat-friendly home away from home.

Cat guests each get their own private, spacious suite, which comes with a comfy bed, toys, a multi-level lounging apparatus and a “private bath” (enclosed litter box).

Club Cat’s decor is really fun. “It’s upscale, fancy hotel-y sprinkled with trompe l’oeil whimsical, cat portraiture,” she says. The 20 suites are named after classic books that have been catified. My personal favorites: The Great Catsby, Brave New Cat and To Kill a Meowingbird.

Amenities Galore

Something cat parents will really love is the CatCast. Each suite has a webcam, so cat parents can watch their kitties from their phones anytime and anywhere. “I would have given my right arm all those years I traveled to be able to see my kitty cats on a whim,” Shana says.

Other amenities include cuddle and playtime, an outdoor view in some suites, CatFlix (cat-friendly visual stimulation like Squirrel World or Garden Birds), nightly purr-down service (a treat and a toy), twice-daily litter box cleaning and medical services like administering medication.

What’s Next for Club Cat?

Shana wants Club Cat to be an invaluable experience for cats and cat parents alike. “My hope and goal is that one day, cat parents will be in the same position as dog parents are, with many appealing options no matter where they live.” For more information, check out clubcatusa.com, and follow the kitty guests’ adventures on Facebook and Instagram @clubcatusa.
